seaguppie: (Listen to my tale)
Erin had been with Gold long enough to start calling him Dad. A few months is a long enough time for her to start feeling stable. She forgot all about how frightened she had been that first day before she met Gold. She did not quite forget that she was mad at August for just leaving her.

She also adores Henry. She is constantly telling him stories about heroes from her world. The really smart ones of course. She thinks the Flash is cool because he is smart. He uses speed as well as science to save the day.

She is a bit of a fan of Aquaman too. But then she would be living mostly underwater if she wasn't living with Gold and Henry. She still functioned fairly well. She was doing great with school work too.

She never expected to be comfortable or happy with a parent-figure again.

So when she knew father's day was coming up? She found a way to get a project going. Dove had been carefully enlisted because she had needed someone to pick up some things for her.

She worked on it in her room. She nearly had a few accidents with the paint and trying to hide things but she had done a decent job Erin thought. She got up early that morning and tried to think of what else she could do. The last time she had tried making pan cakes one got stuck to the ceiling.

She could do some eggs. Wait no. That could be a disaster too. She is aware sometimes she doesn't know her own strength and so maybe cooking is a bad idea. She should just wait for Dad to wake up.

It might be strange to some people to hear her say it but Gold has become Dad. Daddy when she has a nightmare and sneaks into bed for reassurance that the bad things that happened back home can't happen here. That's why she thinks he needs a good Father's day.

Erin was done with 'school stuff'. She was smart and it was easy to get through what she had to do for the weekend. That was why she had been hanging out in the back. Away from prying eyes and reading some more books that she had gotten her hands on. Stuff that was okay for a child to read.

She heard a rather pathetic sound. She looked up from her book. Then just sort of blinked. Storybrooke has kittens?

Of course Storybrooke has kittens. She watches the kitten for a minute then gets up to go get a dish to put water out for the tiny creature. She is fairly sure that it might be hungry but aside from maybe fish she isn't sure what a young kitten would eat. It looks fairly young.

After getting the dish she sets it down so the kitten can find it. Very carefully she goes back to her book. Occasionally she glances up to watch the kitten. She has to bite her lip to laugh at the kitten's upset over getting it's nose wet. That is sort of funny.

Poor thing. She shouldn't laugh at it. Feeling a little embarrassed she looks back down at her book and tries very hard to keep reading.

Ooops

seaguppie: (Childhood mistakes)
It was Erin's second week with Mr. Gold. The first few days had taken some adjustment from both of them. She was a little sensitive to things and easily spooked. Dove had figured out the right sizes and gotten sensible clothing for a little girl. It was slightly old fashioned in style simply because the man had a slightly old fashioned view and he did not wish to over step any boundaries Mr. Gold was going to establish for the child.

Erin hadn't complained until she noticed the trend of an awful lot of pink. She didn't care for that much pink. After that was fixed? Well there wasn't much Erin fussed over. She was generally agreeable to most things.

It's this day that might prove to be super interesting. She has decided that she really wants pancakes. Obviously Mr. Gold might want some too. She thinks she has the measurements right.

She just can't figure out why the batter looks a little runny. Should it look like that?

No. Not really but it might be okay. And she wants to do these soon because she's going to need to wash her hair.

She sort of got flour all over her face. It was totally an accident but at least the kitchen doesn't look like a disaster.

Just her face and hair. Erin is going to try very hard to do pancakes. She's convinced she can manage it all by herself. So for a while she is happily figuring out how to flip pancakes properly. It's very messy business but she sort of has a handle on it. Most of the ones she does to start turn out sort of okay looking.

Right up until she goes to flip the newest one one over with the spatula in the pan.

Oh dear. She blinks staring up. How did that happen? That's just silly. Mr. Gold is totally going to notice that a pan cake ended up on the ceiling. It just stays there for a moment before plopping down onto the floor. Erin stares for a moment longer.

"Maybe this wasn't such a bright idea."
seaguppie: (Should I even trust you mister?)
Once upon a time is how every story begins. August told Erin that when they met. When he found her lost and confused in San Diego. So she told him her tale.

August pitied her as he pulled it from her bit by bit. He knew his father's love, he carried it in his heart all these years. He let her continue. They moved to San Diego one year not so long ago. Her father was always busy. He tried to be nicer. It was okay though because Erin accepted she had to be perfect if she wanted to have anything from him. Mother would never be happy but Erin accepted that long ago. It made August wonder why adults had to be that way. Why couldn't they be like his Papa.

Then there was a terrible accident a few weeks ago. This part of the tale chilled August. People died. The Naval base was destroyed. Erin and so many others were changed. And August heart breaks. Her parents were cruel. Their daughter was just different! He had seen bad things but this made him angry and sad. That poor girl. Thrown out by people who should have loved her.

He is happy to hear about the foster home. It was a better place for her no matter how bad his own experiences were. The kind old Atlantean who had pulled her out of her shell touches his heart. August is determined now that she will get to go to the home she might have with the Atlanteans, he just has to wait for Emma to do what needs to be done.

"I can't take you with me." He rubs her cheek. Erin wants to cry again.

"But August! I don't want to be alone again!" Erin is frightened. How long will she have to wait?

August feels guilty and just rubs her hair. It is as much for his sake as her's. "You won't be alone for long, kiddo. You're adorable. Someone will take one look at you.... And they won't be able to say no. Just trust them. Please."

He shoves some money into her hand. "I know you don't feel the weather much but.... Here. You'll need a thicker coat in town. And make sure you eat. And take a long bath as soon as you can."

He has this urge to fuss over her. She looks so small to him. Was he ever that short? That frightened? "You're drying out a bit," he grumbles.

Erin smiles sadly. "I'll be okay. Are you.... are you sure I have to go?"

He nods unwilling to go further. If he goes with her he might risk drawing attention from the Evil Queen. "I'm sorry, kiddo. I'll.... I'll see you. In eleven years."

Then he pushes her forward and Erin just whimpers as she crosses the town line and his hands leave her back right after he crosses the town line too. His hand lands on his shoulder and he just walks her at least a dozen yards before he stops to make her go the rest of the way alone, Is he an ass? Maybe but he doesn't feel bad right now. Erin just turns to glare and sulk at him as he just stands there trying to look innocent of blame, she doesn't want to be alone! It's too late though and Erin knows it. He is being so selfish, Erin thinks. He just stares at her and Erin wraps her arms around herself staring back.

"It's not fair," she grumbles fighting off the urge to cry again.

"You'll be okay. Someone will help you, I'm sure of it," August says having more faith in Storybrooke than she does. Erin mutters something he doesn't really understand and watches as she starts walking. He doesn't leave until she is way off in the distance.

He has faith this is not how her story ends.

It takes her way too long to get to town. She stops to fight off tears every few minutes the closer she gets. This is just so scary for her. Eventually she stops just in front of a shop. She can see a few people walking about.

And now she is really nervous. What if they aren't actually nice? What if the hero who is going to come here someday doesn't? Erin is just a kid. She doesn't know what she's supposed to do. How come adults have to be so stupid?

"Adults are idiots," she complains mostly to herself. They really are! August shouldn't be afraid of anything. Even some dumb mean old Queen.
